A line on a floodplain map indicating the discharges, water surface elevations and floodway encroachment widths that have been calculated for that section of the stream and floodplain. These values are used for regulating floodplain development in accordance with local, State and Federal standards.
Cross sections are vector features seen on a floodplain map to indicate sections of the stream and floodplain where known discharges, water surface elevations and floodway encroachment widths have been calculated. Floodplain boundaries are determined by creating vertices where water surface elevations indicated by the cross sections are equal to the modeled ground surface. In between cross sections, additional vertices are drawn for water surface elevations that are derived via interpolation based upon the distance from the bounding cross sections upstream and downstream of a given point.
